ooli is a set of learning games for kids aged 4 to 7, on this website (playooli.com) and in the ooli app for iPad and iPhone. ooli is operated by Green Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers the website, the web games, the Parent Hub and the app.
1. The short version
- We never show ads, never sell or share your family's information, and use no third-party analytics or tracking tools.
- Kids never type, chat or use a microphone. They tap pictures.
- We don't ask kids for their name, photo, birthday, voice or location.
- In the app, your kid's profile, progress and creations stay on their device until a parent signs in and gives consent.
- Nothing your kid does is used to train any AI, ours or anyone else's.
- You can see, download or delete your family's information at any time.
2. This website and the web games
Kids can play the web games without an account, and we don't ask them for any personal information. Game progress lives only in the browser's memory while they play and is erased when the tab closes.
When a kid plays a game that uses AI (such as Silly Story Builder), the words or letters they tapped are sent to our server, which asks our AI provider to write the story or word list and read it aloud. These requests contain only the in-game picks, never anything that identifies your kid, and we don't store them after the answer is sent back.
Like any website, our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the time of a visit) to run and secure the site. We use them only for that. The website uses no advertising or analytics cookies. The Parent Hub uses one cookie to keep you signed in.
3. Beta and launch sign-ups
If you join the beta or ask us to tell you when ooli launches, we collect your email address, which list you joined and, for the beta, which device your kid will use. This form is for parents and guardians over 18 only, and it asks nothing about your kid. We use your email only to invite you to the beta or to tell you about the launch. We don't send marketing beyond that, and you can ask us to remove you at any time.
4. The Parent Hub
The Parent Hub (at playooli.com/parents and inside the app, behind the parent gate) is for grown-ups. When you sign in we collect:
- Your email address, to sign you in with a one-time code. There are no passwords.
- Your consent: when you gave it and how.
- Your kids' profiles: a nickname and an age band for each kid (up to 4), and any daily limit and bedtime you set.
- Your kids' progress, synced from the app after you consent: minutes and games played, words spelled, letters traced, stories made, their skill map, and the things they made and earned.
- Your plan: whether it's active, which plan, and where you bought it. If you buy on the website, Stripe processes the payment; we never see or store your card number.
5. The ooli app
Your kid can start playing straight away, with no account. Until a parent signs in and gives consent, your kid's profile, progress and creations stay on the device. Before that, only two things leave the device:
- Story and word requests, on devices that can't make them on the device. These carry only the game's template, the ids of the picture cards your kid tapped, and an age band. They carry no name, account or device id, and we store the result by its picks, not by person.
- Usage events with the random install id described below, which we use to see how the games are working and to improve them.
Here is everything the app collects, as it appears on our App Store privacy label:
| Type | Linked? | Used for | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | Linked to you | App functionality | The parent account (Sign in with Apple or an email code). We ask Apple for the email only, not your name. |
| Name | Linked to you | App functionality | Each kid's nickname, which a parent chooses. It may be a real first name, so we treat it as one. |
| User ID | Linked to you | App functionality | The parent account's id. |
| Device ID | Linked to you | Analytics | A random id the app makes when it's installed, attached to the usage events below. It isn't Apple's advertising id. |
| Purchase history | Linked to you | App functionality | Whether your family plan is active, checked on our server. |
| Gameplay content | Linked to you | App functionality, product personalization | After you give consent: things your kid made and earned (stories, traced letters, stickers, their buddy's look and name), their skill map and their interest map. |
| Product interaction | Linked to you | Analytics | Simple events such as a game started, a round finished, a level changed, a time limit reached, the plan screen opened, and a plan bought. |
| Other data (age) | Linked to you | App functionality | Each kid's age band: 4, 5, 6 or 7+. |
| Diagnostics | Not linked to you | App functionality | If a story fails to generate, we log the failure with no information about your kid. Apple's own crash reports, which you control in Settings, are separate. |
Not collected: location, contacts, photos or videos, audio (the app never asks for the microphone), health, browsing or search history, financial information, sensitive information, and advertising data.
No tracking. We don't combine our data with other companies' data for ads or give it to data brokers, and the app never asks to track you. Our analytics are our own: events go to our database, not to an analytics company.
Purchases in the app are made through Apple. Apple handles the payment and tells us only whether your plan is active.
6. How the AI works
- AI only fills in templates we wrote, from picture cards your kid tapped. Kids can't type or speak to it.
- On devices that support Apple Intelligence, Silly Story Builder writes its story on the device with Apple's on-device model. We never use Apple's Private Cloud Compute for kids.
- Elsewhere, our server sends only the template, the picked words and an age band to our AI provider to write the text and voice it. No personal information is shared with any AI provider.
- Every AI-made line is checked by our kid-safety filter before a kid hears it. If it fails, the game uses content we wrote ahead.
- The learning engine that picks what to practise is ordinary code that runs on the device. It isn't an AI model, and your kid's learning data is never sent to an AI provider.
- Nothing your kid does is used to train any AI model.
7. Children's privacy and parental consent
ooli is made for children under 13, and we follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect only what the games need, and we don't make a kid share more to play.
Before any information about a kid is saved to a family account, a parent must sign in with an emailed code, read our notice of what we collect, and agree. We then email the parent a confirmation, so a parent who didn't agree can tell us and we'll delete everything.
A parent can at any time:
- review the information we hold about their kids, and download a copy;
- delete one kid's information;
- take back consent, which deletes every kid's synced information and stops syncing (kids can still play, and what they do stays on the device);
- delete their whole account.
All of this is on the Privacy page of the Parent Hub, or email us at support@playfulintelligence.co. If we learn we've collected a kid's personal information without consent, we delete it.
8. Who we share information with
We don't sell, rent or share your family's information for advertising. We use these service providers to run ooli, under contracts that let them use the information only to provide their service to us:
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Supabase hosts our database and parent sign-in.
- OpenAI writes and voices stories and word lists from picked words only. Its API doesn't use this data for training.
- Apple handles App Store purchases and, on supported devices, runs the on-device story model.
- Stripe processes payments made on the website.
- Resend sends our emails, such as sign-in codes and consent confirmations.
- Google stores beta and launch sign-ups in a private spreadsheet until our own database takes them over.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of a child or anyone else, or as part of a sale or merger of Green Labs LLC, in which case this policy would still apply to it.
9. How long we keep it
We keep family information while your account is open. When you delete a kid, take back consent or delete your account, the information is deleted within 30 days. Usage events are kept only as long as we need them to understand how the games are working. Sign-ups are kept until launch or until you ask us to remove you. The web games keep nothing.
10. Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Our database lets each parent reach only their own family's information, and only a few people at Green Labs LLC can reach it, to run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if something ever goes wrong, we'll tell affected families as the law requires.
11. Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct, download or delete the information we hold about you or your kids, and we won't treat you differently for asking. Most of this you can do yourself in the Parent Hub; for anything else, email support@playfulintelligence.co. Some US states give you these rights by law, and we offer them to everyone.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use kids' information, we'll email parents and ask for consent again before it applies.
